On Saturday, December 10, at 8:00 PM, Atlanta Schola Cantorum will present its Fall-Winter seasonal program, “SEQUENTIA: The Road from Advent to Christmas,” under the direction of John Whitt. The concert will be held at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 1790 Lavista Road, Atlanta. The program will consist of choral music and readings related to Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany, beginning with prophecies surrounding Jesus’ birth and concluding with his baptism in the River Jordan. Music will feature works of Gregorian chant, motets, and anthems by Victoria, Van Ness, Praetorius, Parsons, Sweelinck, Gibbons, Byrd, Fricker, Clemens non Papa, Walker, Leighton, Weelkes, and Hallock.
Schola is privileged to welcome as its special guest, Atlanta’s own John Lemley, host and producer of John Lemley’s City Café, heard on AM 1690 WMLB, The Voice of the Arts. Mr. Lemley will present the readings. Tickets are $20, available at the door only. Discounts are available for students, seniors, members of Atlanta Early Music Alliance, and St. Bartholomew’s parishioners. A reception will immediately follow.
Schola will also perform the program on Tuesday, December 13, at 8 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta, 189 Church Street, NW, Marietta. Free parking is available at both venues.
