The Spelman College Department of English and Spelman English Club will host an informational session and guest lecture featuring the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting and award-winning photojournalist, teacher, and filmmaker Andre Lambertson. The introductory event marks Spelman’s membership in the Pulitzer Center’s campus consortium group. This membership provides the college with access to world-renowned journalists who will periodically visit the campus for workshops and lectures, as well as access to compete for a $15,000 crisis reporting fellowship that enables study abroad for an aspiring journalist.
Lambertson, who was awarded a Pulitzer Center grant for work on child soldiers in West Africa, has presented his photo essays on social issues including HIV/AIDS, war, violence against children, sexual slavery and equity for magazines, books, foundations, advocacy organizations and museums including Time, US News & World Report, Life, National Geographic, The New York Times Magazine, The Ford Foundation, The George Soros Foundation and The Smithsonian Museum. Lambertson is currently shooting The Whole Gritty City, a documentary about marching bands that help stem street violence against youth in New Orleans. At the event, information about the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting fellowship and application process will be provided. Light refreshments will be served.
The event will take place on Wednesday, November 16 at 12:30 p.m. in the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby Academic Center, Auditorium. The GPS address is 440 Westview Drive SW, Atlanta 30314. For more information visit www.spelman.edu.
