Japanese Jazz Pianist, Senri Oe, To Play Free Concert

Japanese jazz pianist, Senri Oe, will be performing as a soloist this Sunday, April 30, 2017 in honor of International Jazz Day. The free concert begins at 3 p.m. and will be held at the Historic First Congregational Church. The Jazz Ministry of First Church in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs and the Atlanta Jazz Festival is sponsoring this event.

Senri Oe has been active and influential in the Japanese music scene as a lyricist, composer and arranger ever since he debuted in 1983. He is known as a regular pianist for Morning Musuko, a 17-piece band specializing in Japanese popular music (J-pop). The band seeks to improve understanding between Japan and the rest of the world through their interpretation of J-pop.

Additionally, Senri Oe leads his own band and appears in jazz venues around Japan as well as in the New York metropolitan area. He is currently featured monthly at Tomijazz New York and has a monthly column in a free Japanese paper, “Senri Oe’s New York Music Life.” Senri also launched his own record label called PND Records and Music Publishing.
