OUMA Presents: Rwandan Reconciliation

Four Rwandan artists whose lives were impacted by the violence of 1994, Jean Bosco Bakunzi, Willy Karekezi, Izabiriza Moses, and Niyonkuru Canda Bruce, present their most recent, vibrantly colorful paintings that joyfully celebrate the rebirth of Rwandan culture. This exhibit has been made possible by the efforts of Anne Gabongayire who was recently secretary general of the Judiciary of Rwanda, Kigali, during its crucial reconstruction period and is currently a scholar-in-residence and adjunct professor at Oglethorpe University and artist Jean Bosco Bakunzi, founding director of Uburanga Art Studio, Kigali. Contributing to the development of the art scene in Rwanda, Mr. Bakunzi has used his experience and conviction to help drive him forward: “art has the power to heal people physically, mentally, and emotionally.”
