Spelman Celebrates Women’s History Month with a Premiere Film Screening and Discussion ‘3+ 1: Namour’

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, in collaboration with BronzeLens Film Festival, will host a premiere screening of Heidi Saman’s award-winning feature film Namour, Tuesday, March 7, at 6:30 p.m. A finalist at the Sundance Screenwriters Workshop, the film explores the intercession of morals and conviction within the American immigrant community. 3 + 1 is a community film screening and discussion program. Three film experts with diverse (and oftentimes conflicting) perspectives are featured with one empty seat for a member of the audience to occupy and participate in the dialogue.

Saman, a filmmaker and radio producer, was named amongst Filmmaker magazine’s top 25 new faces to watch in 2014. After receiving her master’s degree in film and media arts from Temple University, Saman went on to turn her thesis film into the short The Maid, which premiered at competition at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.

This event is part of related programming for the Museum’s Mickalene Thomas: Mentors, Muses, and Celebrities exhibition.

The film screening and discussion are free and open to the public and will take place at the Spelman Fine Arts Museum in the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby, Ed. D, Academic Center (GPS Address: 440 Westview Drive, Atlanta 30310). For more information, visit http://museum.spelman.edu/events/3-1-namour/.
