Spelman College Distinguished Visiting Scholar Myra Greene Discusses Photography and Race

Spelman College Department of Art and Art History will host a conversation “Surface Tension” with Distinguished Visiting Scholar and photographer Myra Greene. The conversation will take place Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at 6 p.m. and a reception will follow at 7:15 p.m. This special event will feature an Artist Talk with Greene highlighting her notion of images as an activist-iconic expression.  The conversation will also delve into her success as a photographer, scholar and mentor.

Greene is an associate professor of photography at Columbia College Chicago. Her recent book, “My White Friends,” examines her exploration into photography’s description of race. Greene’s work is in the permanent collection of Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, The National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, and The New York Public Library.

The event is free and open to the public and will take place in the Baldwin Burroughs Theatre of the John D. Rockefeller Fine Arts Building (GPS Address: 440 Westview Drive, Atlanta 30310).
