World War II Lecture + Awards Ceremony

The Museum of History and Holocaust Education and the Anti-Defamation League are honored to host Atlanta-based veteran Dr. Hillard Pouncy for a special lecture.

Born in rural Alabama, Dr. Hillard Pouncy enrolled at the Tuskegee Institute on a work scholarship in 1940. “When I got there, it had just been decided that they were going to let black people fly,” Pouncy said. He trained at Moton Field in Tuskegee and eventually became a bombardier in the 477th Bombardment Group. In 1958, Dr. Pouncy obtained a Ph.D. in chemistry at Syracuse University and worked for Union Carbide for 30 years.

In addition to the lecture, join us for an awards ceremony for the “Building Communities Against Hate” art and writing contest in partnership with ADL Southeast. Teens across the Southeast submitted artistic and literary interpretations of a moment in time when communities came together to stop the spread of hatred and intolerance.
