The Collective Culture in collaboration with the Apollo Theater presents the staged adaptation of the critically acclaimed book, Between the World and Me—by National Book Award-winning author, Ta-Nehisi Coates.
Developed and directed by Apollo Theater Executive Producer Kamilah Forbes, Coates’ words will be read by eight performers that will include Grammy-award winning artist, actor, entrepreneur and philanthropist Tip “T.I.” Harris; leading actress and producer Lynn Whitfield; rapper, activist and businessman Michael Render, pka Killer Mike; and 12x Grammy-nominated vocal powerhouse Ledisi, in addition to Tony-nominated actress Michelle Wilson (Sweat); actress Pauletta Washington (Philadelphia, Antwone Fisher); artist, poet, and TED Global Fellow Marc Bamuthi Joseph; and actor Greg Alverez Reid (Between the World and Me). The production also features original music composed by MacArthur “Genius” Jason Moran and performed live by his trio, bassist Mimi Jones and drummer Nate Smith.
