Directed by Paul Carter Harrison. Written in 1969 by Martiniquean poet Aimé Césaire, this ritual drama adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest examines resistance to colonialism through a Caribbean lens. Driven by the expressive wisdom of African oral tradition, A Tempest confronts the damage inflicted by colonial suppression while celebrating the power of cultural memory to assert identity and rise in spirit above the conditions of oppression.
