Evan Bassett, student in Emory’s Graduate Division of Religion, discusses a relief fragment from the ancient Assyrian king Sennacherib’s “Palace Without Rival.” The fragment, on loan from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, depicts the siege of a city and would have been part of a larger program of wall reliefs depicting the indomitable might of the Assyrian military that would have filled the entire room.
