Atlanta Schola Cantorum, a 24-voice ensemble, will present, “Jewels in the Crown: Music of William Byrd and Thomas Tallis,” under the direction of John Whitt. Our program consists of the choral music of Thomas Tallis and William Byrd, whose music dominated the golden age of early music in England, The program includes a sampling of both Latin and English works, from the complexity of the Latin motets to the simpler style of some of the anthems composed for the new Church of England. Featured, among others, are Byrd’s sublime Mass for Four Voices, Sing joyfully, and Haec dies; along with Tallis’ Loquebantur variis linguis and If ye love me.
