Dance into Spring features choral works based on two very different types of dance.
Choral Dances from Gloriana consist of six short pieces drawn from a courtly masque within the opera Gloriana by Benjamin Britten. The various movements represent Time, Concord, Concord and Time, Country Girls, Rustics and Fisherman, and Final Dance of Homage.
Johannes Brahms’ Liebeslieder (Love Songs) are set to music in the style of Ländler: a type of waltz from Austria and southern Germany. Featuring four-hand piano performed by Leanne Herrmann and guest artist Wayne Gilreath, this set of 18 short pieces ranges in compositional style from Schubert to Strauss. But all of them will bring a smile to your face!
Rounding out the program are individual choral works by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, Alan Bullard, Blake Henson, and an upbeat gospel-style spiritual arranged by Howard Helvey.
