Friends of Gene 2019

Special Exhibition Hosted by Thomas Deans for the Savannah College of Art and Design

“This is the home of Atlanta’s most popular artist,” proclaimed the message on Gene Allcott’s answerphone. It ended with his infectious laugh and these words: “Just send a check or leave a message.”  Each spring the Savannah College of Art (SCAD) in Atlanta holds the Friends of Gene Exhibition to honor the memory of Atlanta artist Gene Allcott (1953-1992). Gene graduated from SCAD’s predecessor, the Atlanta College of Art in 1977 and lived and worked in Atlanta until his untimely death in an accident fifteen years later.

Presented by Thomas Deans Fine Art, the 2019 Friends of Gene (FOG) exhibition comprises work by Allcott himself (from the SCAD permanent collection), as well as new work by current students and alumni. Prizes will be awarded in Gene Allcott’s name to an Outstanding SCAD Artist ($1,000) and Outstanding Alumni ($500).
