Food 101 is excited to welcome James Beard award-winning Chef Virginia Willis to Food 101 on Thursday, September 21st for an evening to celebrate a true southern’s favorite vegetable: grits! Georgia-born Willis has shared her immense culinary knowledge as an editor and writer for Southern Living, along with countless other publications and as the author of numerous cookbooks. Her newest book Grits is the inspiration for the dinner.
While enjoying a screening of the award-winning short film by Stan Woodward, “It’s Grits!”, guests will indulge in southern cocktail specials and hors d’oeuvres that include shrimp and grits pâté on brioche toast and stone ground cheese and sausage grits beignets. After the film, the feast begins. The chefs designed a specialty 4 course menu featuring Anson Mills Antebellum crabs and grits cake with arugula; St. Andre grits souffe with balsamic blackberries; pan roasted duck with coffee demi, wild mushroom grits gnocchi and quail egg; and a Riverview Farms Stone Ground Grits Cake.
