“And burn the long lived phoenix in her blood.”
– Sonnet 19
Join us for the 2nd Annual LadyShakes! The women of the Atlanta
Shakespeare Company have joined together again for a second year of
Shakespearean text, combat, and music… entirely performed, directed, and
produced by us!
Only 16% of Shakespeare’s characters are written as women. Now, we all
love Bill, but we think that’s kind of disappointing, as the Atlanta
Shakespeare Company trains and employs some of the most talented and
hard-working women in our city. With so few female roles to go around, we
very rarely have the opportunity to work with one another. Our passion for
our work and our community was the inspiration for this project, and we
cannot wait to perform our second show!
This performance is a benefit the Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic
Violence in Decatur, GA. In addition to proceeds from ticket sales going
to support this important organization, we are also going to be holding a
silent auction!
To misquote Edmund, “We burn, we glow, we prosper. Now Gods and Goddesses,
stand up for women!”
