The second Atlanta Jazz Festival’s MARTA Mondays’ second event will take place Monday, May 13 from 4 – 6 p.m. at College Park Station as a part of the 31 Days of Jazz events. MARTA Mondays feature free live jazz at a different MARTA transit station on Monday afternoons. These two-hour jazz concerts provide a preview to the upcoming Atlanta Jazz Festival in Piedmont Park.
Performing at the second MARTA Monday will be Groove Centric. The Atlanta-based group formed in 2008 and consists of saxophonist Mike Jones, guitarist Keith Barnes, bassist Joel Powell and drummer Brien Andrews. Groove Centric draws inspiration from a variety of influences, including classic tunes reminiscent of Miles Davis, to the smooth sounds of Jill Scott and head bopping funk similar to James Brown and Earth, Wind and Fire. Groove Centric are experienced Atlanta performers, playing at venues like City Winery, The Velvet Note and Venkman’s.
