Oglethorpe University Theatre is bringing the deformed and covetous Richard, Duke of Gloucester, one of Shakespeare’s most deliciously deranged villains, to the stage. A historically artistic interpretation of the bloody War of Roses and its aftermath, Shakespeare explores how evil comes to power and what follows for everyone else in this dark political thriller.
Amidst the supposed peace between the Houses of Lancaster and York, the Yorkist Edward IV is crowned king, but in the shadow of his throne lurks Edward’s brother, Richard, who is after the crown and will stop at nothing to get it. With a series of strategic moves, Richard manipulates and murders his way to the throne.
