Many jazz artists think of their world in terms of blue – the space on the musical palette where melancholy and cool often converge. But for Grammy-nominated vocalist, composer, theatrical performer, and teacher, René Marie, reaches well beyond the traditional parameters of jazz, conjuring a much different hue. Her music is rooted in jazz traditions with various elements of folk, R&B and even classical and country incorporated to create an original, captivating hybrid style. René Marie brings her wide-ranging, clever song-craft and sensual vocal delivery to a special evening at the Rialto with the Georgia State University Jazz Band led by trumpeter Dr. Gordon Vernick.
