The Spelman College Department of Theater and Performance will present “Salt City: A Techno Choreopoem” from Feb. 16 through Feb. 19. Written by poet and performance artist Jessica Care Moore and directed by Aku Kadogo, chair of Department of Theater and Performance, the Afro-futuristic fantasy takes place in the salt mines located below the city of Detroit and in a 2071 Detroit. The production, a tale of love, gentrification and tomorrow, also will feature the music of several Detroit techno giants. In April 2015, Kadogo premiered a work-in-progress of “Salt City” as the culminating event of her term as a Spelman Distinguished Visiting Scholar.
Show times will be 8 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 16-18, and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19. The event is free and open to the public and will take place in the Baldwin Burroughs Theatre of the John D. Rockefeller Fine Arts Building (GPS Address: 440 Westview Drive, Atlanta 30310).
