After an incredible year, marked by a series of prestigious events, Canadian comedy superstar Sugar Sammy brings his razor-sharp wit to the Punchline Comedy Club in Atlanta, GA January 16th – 19th. Sammy is a master at interacting with his audiences delivering hilarious scenarios and comments on our global society’s inherent contradictions in a brilliantly entertaining way, sharing his views of his Indian roots and world travels. Ultimately, his comedy has changed the landscape of our cultural reality by confronting language and social issues and exploring the great cultural divide. He can hit on cultural, social and political themes with such charm and finesse that it allows him to push the envelope a little farther than most.
As one of the hottest comedians on the international circuit, Sugar Sammy has performed over 1,700 shows in 32 countries, in English, French, Hindi, and Punjabi. His career rocketed in his home city of Montreal, Quebec when he debuted his extremely successful bilingual show “You’re Gonna Rire” which he performed in English and French. The unprecedented success of this groundbreaking show made him a cultural phenomenon. A total of 421 sold-out performances—and 372,000 tickets later—it became the best-selling debut one-man show in Quebec’s history. Sugar Sammy’s success transcends the stage. His first-ever DVD, Sugar Sammy Live in Concert: Direct from Montreal, became he top-selling comedy title on Amazon.ca for five straight weeks and continues to post highly impressive sales
In addition to his success in Canada, Sugar Sammy’s star power continues to grow exponentially in France and the U.S. He won “Best Comedian” in the Le Parisien magazine’s prestigious countdown of 2018’s hottest performing arts and television stars in their annual Les Étoiles du Parisien show and returned to the judges’ panel for season 14 of La France a un Incroyable Talent (the French version of America’s Got Talent), one of France’s most popular TV shows, with ratings averaging 3.5 million viewers an episode. The media has been paying close attention to Sugar Sammy’s quick trajectory to stardom. He was introduced to the American public through two of its most prestigious daily papers, with a feature that appeared in both the New York Times and on the front page of its international edition as well as an interview on the front page of the Washington Post’s Arts section. Sammy’s insightful and often controversial remarks leave no one indifferent. This “fearless comic with a talent for provoking both laughter and outrage” received a rare honor when the world’s most prestigious newspaper, the New York Times, devoted an in-depth profile to him in its August 11, 2018, edition, a privilege bestowed on few performers.
With all this Canadian success, he promptly decamped to Paris and started over from scratch to see how far he could push French audiences. Pretty far, it turns out! After selling over 75,000 tickets in France, Belgium & Switzerland, he’ll return to Paris in March to begin a residency at the Casino de Paris. Sammy continues to pop back home to Canada reminding audiences how good Canadians have it. In 2017 he toured Canada, hosting the Just For Laughs Comedy Tour, and toured across the country again this fall, visiting 8 cities with sold out shows.
