The First Rainbow Coalition Screening

On Wednesday, January 8th, 2020, Georgia Public Broadcasting and Working Films, will host a free screening of The First Rainbow Coalition in conjunction with ITVS Indie Lens Pop-Up. In 1969, the Chicago Black Panther Party began to form alliances with the Latinx Young Lords Organization and the white southern Young Patriots. Banding together in one of the most segregated cities in post-war America, the Rainbow Coalition changed the face of 1960s Chicago politics and created an organizing model for future activists and politicians. Filmmaker Ray Santisteban will be joined in conversation following the screening with representatives from Georgia Stand Up, The Counter Narrative Project, Housing Justice League, and Project South to discuss themes of community organizing, housing equity, multi-racial coalition building.
