Who am I? An engaging lecture on biculturalism with Michel Bordeau

Learn how to cope with the challenges of raising “Americanized French children”

Guest speaker : Michel Bordeau Psychotherapist & Education Coach

Parenting in a multicultural family context is not for the faint of heart. Therefore to preserve our serenity and sanity, we should pause moment to discuss cultural, social, and linguistic roots of our individual, and shared parenting styles. To preserve our kids’ serenity and sanity we might want to observe our parenting habits through their eyes. In short, a little awareness goes a long way in helping us accept that doing the best we can is great enough for our kids.

  1. Understanding parenting styles regardless of culture: Are you an authoritarian, authoritative, neglectful, or permissive parent?
  2. The roots of our parenting style? Family experience, social influence, and cultural traditions.
  3. What makes it difficult to parent together when gender, culture, tradition, languages differences, and context get in the way?
  4. How does your parenting style shape your child’s sense of self?
  5. Is it all that bad that we parent differently?

Conclusion: How do we achieve sanity and serenity as bi-cultural parents for our multi-cultural kids?
